Where are you based?

FyneArt.com is a British company trading from within the United Kingdom

The photo to painting service is just that, you give us a digital photograph from which you wish a portrait to be painted, and we will paint that portrait/image for you, if you wish a landsape painting rather than a portrait, there may be a lot more work involved and it is best to get a quote for you painting as there may be additional charges and an extension of time required.
You may also want to commission a painting which encorporates text and or other images, for this you should also seek a quote from us.
The photos on canvas service is fairly simple, the idea is to take your digital photograph and put it onto canvas. However you may want the image to be manipulated in some way prior to canvas production, whether this be collage, montage, colour splash or woodcut, These services have additional charges, please see the price page for details.  You may also have a much more detailed commission for us which you should get in contact for a quote.
How to send your images?

The easiest way to submit your images is just to click on the link to 'upload to us' at the top of any page and follow the instructions, easy
.

If you would prefer to send your image in hard copy to us please get in contact  first to let us know of your intentions. Any CD's sent to us or original photographs will be returned with your completed product, please note however, we can not be held responsible for any photos or cd's damaged in transit to and from the studio. Should you alternatively wish to scan your image and send us that, please scan the image at a minimum resolution of 200dpi.

Dots per inch (dpi) is the resolution of a file when printed to a certain size. The higher the dpi the better the quality of the final print out. Ideal dpi is 300 however images with a dpi less than 200 may be acceptable. When taking images on digital cameras, set it at the highest resolution, ie. a 2048 x 1536 will mean that the ideal print size would be 20" x 15". It is important to maintain the aspect ratio when enlarging on either side. If it is not possible to print to your exact size requirements, or that your image quality is not good enough, we will advise you.

Can you change my image, remove background etc?

We will be more than happy to enhance your photo, remove any marks or blemishes as well as red eye reduction prior to creating your photo to canvas or photo to painting, we will also take out camera dates and add text should you wish it. There is no extra charge for this service. However any major amendment (for example complete background removal or replacement) will incur a nominal charge - either 8 or 11 pounds depending on its complexity, just let us know what you would like done and we will be happy to quote you.

Are your paintings photoshop?

No, paintings are produced by hand and by our very own artist using the latest digital painting tablets and brushes

I want to see how the final painting will turn out?

A  file will be made available to you as a copy proof  of your photo painting should you ask for one, completely free of charge, but please note different monitors and TFT screens will have different colour settings.

What is gallery wrapping?

This is where the image goes around the frame on all 4 sides. The canvas will be stretched and wrapped around the edges. The corners will be carefully folded and tucked in, the canvas on the back of the frame will be covered by tape to give a finished look. Therefore it is important to ensure that the main subject of the image is not too close to the edges to prevent it from going around the sides 1.5" to 2" of space around the main image is enough to apply the wrapping technique.

Alternatively, you can go for a plain edge where the sides have the natural colour of the canvas with your whole image remaining on the front, an example of the gallery wrapping option can be found on our
gallery wrap page

Please note that should you not choose a specific wrapping option our artist will select the best option for you and your photo.

What materials do you use?

We print on 390gsm cotton artist canvas, using pigmented inks which are UV protected fade resistant. The expected life expectancy of canvas prints is at least 75 years, providing they are kept out of extreme conditions.

All images will be stretched around adjustable wooden bars. We offer 2 types of bars either a 18mm or 38mm deep. They have a rounded edge on 1 side to ensure the canvas is kept above the stretcher bar. In addition the bars also allow for wedges to be placed in each corner. On the larger frames, we may include center bars for added protection.

Can I have the Canvas unframed so I
can choose my own frame?

No. We do not currently offer this service.

This is a time limited offer and will be invoiced separately should you wish another painting. Just get in contact with us and we will send you a money request for your painting with a discount of 40% of the original cost.

Please note this offer is for 'Photo to Paintings' only and only on sizes larger than 16"x12".

How will my order be delivered?

Mostly, we use Royal Mail's 1st class post and we always obtain a certificate of posting. We also use a number of other courier services for the larger and heavier shipments. As parcels are quite large, someone will need to accept them in person. Should this be a problem at your home address, we recommend providing an alternate address such as work etc.

To ensure your stretched canvas reaches you in the safest possible way, we will wrap it with kraft paper before multiple wrapping with bubble wrap for extra protection. All stretched images are marked "fragile". Should your print arrive damaged in anyway, please notify us within 24 hours.

Due to the size of the parcels someone may need to be around to accept delivery.
(it is not possible to pick up your canvas, all canvas's will be posted to you)

Our normal dispatch time is between 7 and 10 working days for a 'photos on canvas' from receipt of an approved photo and cleared payment , this may be slightly longer if we are making any adjustments. However, the majority of the time it will be sent a lot quicker. If you require your order urgently please let us know and we will try to be accommodating. Photos to paintings do take longer as the process of painting takes a considerable time and each painting is unique, with that in mind please allow 5 weeks for completion, we will try to keep well within these times but art is a tricky business and im sure you will agree when you get your finished painting that it was well worth the wait. Should our artist be unable to meet this timescale for whatever reason, you will be advised before purchase.

Do I need anything to hang my canvas?

No.

Your canvas will be delivered ready to hang on your walls at no additional charge.  All we recommend is that you hang your canvas away from extreme conditions such as high temperatures and bright lights.

Yes thats no problem, just let us know what you want removed, for example blemishes on the skin, a hair in the wrong place, these small details are removed on your request free of charge. If you should require large areas of change in your photo please get in contact as there may be an additional charge between 8 and 11 pounds depending on the amount of work involved for example complete background removal.

How do i care for my canvas print / photo to painting?

To maintain & increase the lifespan of your canvas, do not expose to continuous, strong sunlight or moisture. Do not clean with a wet/damp cloth; a light vacuum with the brush attachment will get rid of any dust on the surface.

What is a copy proof?

A copy proof takes the form of an image that will be sent to you for approval prior to your canvas being made. You will be sent this by email or by a link where you can download the image file. You should then inform us (quoting any references given) that you formally approve the image and wish to proceed with the transaction. Should you in the unlikely event not wish to proceed to a full production we will refund you 30% of your initial payment excluding any non-refundable deposit paid.

Should it be your wish not to proceed your painting/canvas will be kept for you for upto 14 days. Should you return to fyneart.com and wish the painting to go to its final stage within that time period, all you have to do is pay the remainder of your balance. After the 14 days has passed your painting will still be available to you although your original deposit will no longer be valid and full payment will be required before delivery.

Please note that different monitors and TFT screens will have different colour settings and therefore your copy proof may differ slightly to the produced canvas.

Unfortunately this does pose a problem as we are in constant contact with out clients by email, should you not have access to email on a daily basis, it is regrettable, but we would have to decline your order with us.

What is the difference between this other photo painting sites?

Simple, FyneArt.com uses an artist to paint the photo to paintings using the latest digital equipment upon the very best digital canvas.  Other 'so called' digital painting sites use photo shop software to produce there 'paintings', their job is over in about an hour tops, our service takes approximatiely 15 ot 23 hours for each painting to be completed. Art should not cost the earth, it should be affordable and available to all, thats why FyneArt is here, so that you have that option rather than go to a traditional artist where your painting will cost in excess of 600 pounds and to boot you will have at least a 4 to 6 month wait, anything less and your wasting your money.

Unfortunately it is not possible to visit us, fyneart.com is a business run from the family home, but dont worry, all questions are answered by email or phone and to date there has not been one single complaint, infact we have been highly praised for the level of contact and content we provide.
